Our Story
1909 – when it all started
In 1909, at the corner of Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, young Albert would stand over a small copper kettle filled with the best ingredients attainable. Cooking his new confections over an open flame, Albert knew that every recipe had to be absolutely perfect or he would have to try again. He understood that as a newcomer to this country, he would have to create a product that was so high in quality, that its success would be guaranteed.
A family that sticks together
The ambitious Lebanese native along with his new Swedish bride, fair and beautiful Helen Trovall, would soon tirelessly supply their growing demand for his fine confections. Again and again, a new recipe would be perfected. Together, the family has fought back through numerous hardships, such as bankruptcy as a result of the great depression, rations during World War II and a devastating and fiery explosion that destroyed their business in 1965.
Wholesome, time-proven recipes
Albert’s recipes, perseverance and optimism has inspired a lineage of family candy makers through the evolution of this great country that he had risked everything to be a part of. Using the same wholesome and pure ingredients, intricate small batch candy-making techniques and even some of the same copper kettles, we honor the courage and passion for excellence of family generations before us. We are proud to offer to you, these classic confections.
“Our mission, set forth by our founder Albert Abdallah over a century ago, is to provide a second-to-none commitment to quality and goodness. And that the experience results in the emotion of happiness and satisfaction.”
